I get the message "The selected file is not a valid Microsoft Office Document
Imaging File" in my outlook every time Iopen an attachment

Sounds like you are trying to open a type of attachment for which the
default file handler is set to Microsoft Office Document Imaging. My guess
would be that it is a tif-file you are trying to open.

Set the default to another application which can handle that type of file.
Depending on your version of Windows, this can be done via;
Control Panel-> Folder Options-> tab File Types
or
Start-> Default Programs
