attachments disapearing in outlook 2000

Outlook 2000 automatically blocks certain attachments
which it believes have the potential to be viruses ,
particularly *.exe. See help documentation under e-mail
security and unsafe attachments. A level 1 file will be
blocked, a level 2 file will have a paper clip with
options to save to disk where you can the decide what to
do. I don't think there is any way to open level 1 files
or change which files are level 1 coded. This can be done
in Outlook Express though.

thanks for answering,

I discover this problem in sending .doc files then I tried
with jpeg for the same result. I never send .exe. Most of
people I'm sending to don't receive the attachment. My
hotmail adress receive a .dat showing the proper
unformatted content in Notepad. One other computer I have
et home does receive properly the attachment. I believe
this is resulting from a virus. I re-installed Outlook
with oubviously no result! I'm looking for a configuration
file to reset or some hidden files probably infected.

Any other advices?

Thanks

Make sure you use HTML or Plain Text format when sending messages to users
of any other e-mail client besides Outlook. Don't use Rich Text format,
which is proprietary to Outlook and will cause problems for other
recipients, one of which is that they won't get your attachments.

Try this: Choose one of your contacts who is not properly receiving your
attachments. Open up his contact record and double-click the e-mail
address. A dialog box called "E-mail Properties" (or similar) should open.
If you are given a choice for the sending format, make sure it's not set to
always send to that e-mail address in Rich Text format.

The only option in my outlook 2000 is to check the
box ''send plain text format''. I could check it and ask
my contact about the result but how about contacts not in
my contacts book. They are the one who wake me up about my
problem. They replied to my emails asking for attachments
and a second time and so on. Also I'm always copying
emails (for testing purpose to an hotmail address so I can
verify on the spot if it's okay.

Thanks again for your help

I'm not sure what you mean about the Hotmail accounts. If you CC the
message to Hotmail, do the attachments appear there?
