Attachments disappear when forwarded to OE from Outlook

Recently I have found that messages sent with attachments from Outlook to Outlook Express go through fine, but forwarded messages with attachments do not. Instead, they still retain the size of the original (i.e. attachment data is there) but no attachment is available when they are loaded into OE. Have tried changing mail format to plain text, HTML, etc. with no impact. Any Ideas?
