attachments end up being .dat files

My wife is a new user of 2002 coming from Express. She uses XP Home.

Since she switched 10 days ago, any attachments (.doc files) that she does
ends up as an icon in her e-mail and not as an attachment below the subject
line as they should. There is one exception. If she attaches a file to a
reply that she's making, it appears in the correct place. Until today people
have been able to open or save the docs. even though they are just icons in
the e-mail body.

She sent several to me. I use Express and I saw no evidence of them. When I
looked at the e-mail properties though, I could see "winmail.dat". Also I
could see many lines of gibberish that I assume was the attachment.

Thanks,

Marc

Have your wife change the format for outgoing messages to either plain
text or HTML, not Rich Text Format, and all will be well.
