Attachments sending 20 times!

Hi

I am running Outlook 2003 on XP Pro, and am having a strange problem occur.
Anytime I attach a file to an email that is of any size at all (200kb
upwards), the 'send / receive' takes forever, and I then find out the file
has been received at the other end 20 - 30 times! The only way I can stop the
email from continuing to send for literally hours is to go to 'work offline'
and then delete the note completely. This has been happening ever since I
installed Outlook 2003 six months ago, & it does not seem to matter what type
of file is attached. It is a new PC with full virus-scanning, firewall etc,
so am not sure as to what could be causing this problem & how to fix it.
Would appreciate some advice

Regards

Bill

Do you have any type of internet security product installed that can
scan/review outgoing mail?

Oh and can you do this for me...

1) Do you have SP2 for Windows XP installed?

2) Can you turn on diagnostic logging, duplicate the issue, and then post
the log?

ps - please make sure you have sp1 for office/outlook 2003 installed when
working with diagnostic logging.

Thanks Neo for the quick reply :)

I have McAfee 2003 installed and it scans my email. I do not have XP SP2
installed - appreciate your advice on this one, as I have read a lot of
horror stories about SP2 & have deliberately avoided installing it. Are you
suggesting I should?

I am at work at the moment & the issue is on my home PC, so when I get to
the machine I will advise you of the outcome

Cheers

Actually there is a change in SP2 for Windows XP in regards to how localhost
connections are dealt with and there have been quite a few posts about
dropped connections lately. I'm trying to get folks that mention XP to
state whether or not SP2 is installed to see if there is any correlation.
As for skipping SP2... nope.

As for the problem, just about every program that tries to protect e-mail
uses some sort of localhost proxy. This could be introducing a race
condition (and has in the past versions). Best advise is to either disable
the feature or uninstall/reinstall w/out the e-mail protection to see if the
problem resolves itself.

ps - McAfee isn't the only problematic one. Seeing this in Symantec/Norton,
Trend, and even ZoneAlarm.
