Attachments sent and email remains in outbox

When I send an email with an attachment (picture) it is actually sent but it remains in the Outbox and resends-each time telling me the server has timed out-until I actually delete the email. It does not show up in my sent mail or deleted mail. I have increased the server timeout to no avail. Some of the recipients have received the same email 10 times before I realyzed it was sending them when it was saying message has not been sent. THerefore, I am never sure if my resipients have received the email until they tell me to stop sending them

I am very frustrated with Outlook and will probably go back to OUtlook Express and forget all the other aspects of Outlook

Using Windows XP, MacAfee VirusScan, new Dell Laptop 9/2003
