attachments unreadable

I downloaded and installed SP2 for Office XP a week or 2
ago, and ever since then, no one can read my attachments.
Sometimes they come out gibberish and some people get
errors saying they can't read Chinese.

I did install the service pack bc I was experience some
performance problems, so SP may not be cause. Don't know
how to solve, though. No known viruses.
