Computer Idiot

I am a firefighter with the Austin Fire Department. I am
also a board member on the Austin Fire Museum Committee.
All of our board members are experts on every piece of
state of the art fire suppression equipment available, but
none of us know jack about computers. I managed to teach
myself the very basics of Microsoft Access to construct a
database for keeping track of our museum contacts. I have
it as a Table and a Form. What I would like is for each
board member to have a copy of it on their home computer
where we can update the master version located at the
museum itself. Right now, I can't even get the thing out
of my own computer. I can't save it to disk, I can't e-
mail it. How can I get my database on to other people's
computers and then how do I get them to play nicely
together? Anything anyone can do would be very much
appreciated - just please speak in VERY basic terms.
Thank you very much.

Access is not a great tool for using on a wide area network (the Internet)
However it can be done. You can use a Virtual Private Network (slow as an
old hound dog) or Terminal Services (reasonably quick). Or you can build a
new web based front-end. If everyone has Windows XP Pro and the server is
Windows 2000 or later, I'd opt for the Terminal Services which works great
for you application.

You will need some local expertise to help you set it up though. If you
can't find any, post back to me personally and, I'll post in the MVP
newsgroups and see if there's a local MVP that can help. You can find my
email address in either of the websites listed in my SIG below. Mark your
email clearly as I get hundred a day that I just delete.
