Attributable Time

I would like to know if there is a way in PS 2003 to take care of the following situation -

A member works for 8 hours/day on a particular task for this week. Of that we'd like to charge the client only for 5 hours/day, the balance 3 hr/day is recorded under attributable time. We want put the 5 hrs & 3 hrs in 2 separate buckets. We still want to track the 3 hrs/day tat has been worked, but will not be billable to the client. Is there a way by which a user can enter these numbers. The ratio may change from day to day.

Thanks in advance....Sude

There is a "sort of" workaround, but you are using Project as a billing
system. This is not what Project was designed to do (just as your billing
system was not designed to track projects).

"Sort of" workaround (not appropriate if the number of work hours changes
daily):

Assuming that this is not the only task where you want to do this.

1. Insert columns: number1 and cost1
2. Number1 gets set to a percentage of the actual hours you want to
bill. In most cases, this will be 100 but, in your example, it will be
5/8 or 62.5
3. formula in Cost1 =

([Actual Cost]*[Number1])/100

Sude,

You could also try entering two tasks for each actual task, one
labeled "Billable" and the other "Not Billable". Then the resource
could enter the appropriate amount in each task. As John said, this is
not the best use of Project as it's not billing software.

Thanks. We are pilot testing the software to test it's viability in our environment. Your feedback is much appreciated.
