Attribute "Archive" missing in Properties dialog

Attribute "Archive" missing in Properties dialog for
documents. Also, start Menu's Open Office Document and
New Office document each open the subsequent dialog, but
upon choose document fails to complete action. Properties
of these two start Menue items are missing said Attribute
choice. Are these two things related? What is the
resolution?
