Authenticate new program

I know for Windows XP there is an authentication for updates to make sure you
have a legit copy. Is there such a site for MS Office?

Office validation is a similar but separate process from Windows validation.
Microsoft is now offering the Office Validation Assistant, which enables users
of Microsoft Office to validate whether they are running genuine Office. Visit

Thank you, Carey. The CD appears authentic. I asked the wrong question.
The correct question how can I tell if they were previously
registered/activated? I got 2 copies of Office XP Professional. They appear
to be used CDs as the box is not shrink wrapped and the back of the CD is not
very clean. Can one still buy new copies of Office XP Professional now that
Office 2003 is out?

There is no way to predetermine if your copies of Office XP
were previously activated. All you can do is install and attempt
to activate. If activatation via the internet fails, then try the
alternative option to "activate by phone".
