Authenticating

I have this annoying item:

When I highlight a project on Project Server and click "open...", the system
makes me enter my password again before it will open the project in Project.
It is the same password that I entered when I logged onto the Project
Server.

User Authentication is set to "Project Server authentication only".

I would really like to get rid of this annoyance. Anyone know how?

When you use Project Server authentication, the system displays a dialog by
default whenever you launch either Project Web Access or Microsoft Project
Professional. Even when you are logged into Project Web Access, the system
must still log into Microsoft Project using your Project Server account, and
this necessitates the display of the dialog so that you can enter a
password. If you were using Windows User Account authentication, you would
never see this dialog. Hope this helps.

That was kind of what I suspected.

If you use Windows User Account authentication, do you need to have a
Windows License?

We have a mix bag at the University. Authentication is done either through
Novell or through a Kerberos system on Unix. Most of our Windows Server are
used as application servers or database servers. Hence we have very few
Windows CALs.

95% of our workstations are Windows. Every flavor of Windows with the
exception of ME. But the majority of those that will be hitting the Project
Server are Windows XP.

We have an extensive Ethernet. For the most part LAN are 100 Mbs,
interconnections between the LANs are 1Gbs with fiber making up most of the
backbone.

Hopefully I answered your question...Ed

I've read this thread and I'm not sure what you're asking, but I'll take a
stab:

To use Windows authentication, you need a domain controller and a client
operating system that provides a path to a logon. To use Project Web Access
and Project Server, your client OS must be Win98 or higher.
For users with MAC OS, Unix flavors and others, use Terminal Services or
Citrix with a remote desktop. You'll need this to support ActiveX and other
Windows-unique dependencies.
