"authentication required"

I get e-mail returned to me as undeliverable - authentication required. Not
all my mail has this happen, about 60% does. Can anyone help me figure this
out?

More info needed. Do you use POP mail? Does your ISP require authentication
to their mail server for SMTP relay, and have you selected that in your
account properties if so? What version of Outlook? What's the exact text of
the NDR/bounce message?
