Auto-publish

If a user saves their project in PS 2007, it is not automatically published
to the site. Users need to actually go to 'publish' in order to publish the
project. This is different from how 2003 used to work.

Is there any way to override this 'feauture'?
Why was this change made?

Thanks!

I'm amazed you want to argue about how publishing works in Project Server
2007, since the default publishing behavior of Project Server 2002 and 2003
was a huge complaint among the user community. In Project Server 2007, when
a PM saves a project in the Project Server database, the system stores the
information in the Draft database. The project is not visible in PWA, which
is a good thing, as it prevents "half baked" projects that are still in the
planning stage from appearing in the Project Center. When the PM publishes
a project, the system "pushes" the project information to the Published
database, making the project information available in PWA.

There is no way to override the default publishing behavior. Therefore, if
you are getting complaints about this feature, you may want to teach them
why it behaves this way and how they benefit from it, and then tell them to
get used to it! :) Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response, Dale - that makes sense. One more question
regarding this: Is there a way to do a bulk publish without opening every
single project to assist those that consistently forget to do it?

Thanks!

No, there is no way to bulk publish in Project Server 2007. There is a
utility for Project Server 2003 that allowed the bulk publishing of
projects, but I heard from too many people that the utility simply didn't
work. Therefore, the best I can offer you is that you need to make this a
"training and performance" issue with your PM's. Train them to publish
their projects regularly and then hold them accountable for the behavior.
Hope this helps.

Do could write a PSI application to perform bulk publish ops (but don't ask
me how)!
