Bob:
Tools > Options > Mail Setup. Second section in that panel -- untik
"Send Immediately When Connected". OK your way out.
Additional tweaks available by clicking on "Send/Receive" over there
to the right.
Done.

I thought that was to send the message when you sent it from the message
otherwise it would put it in your outbox untill you did send/receive and had
nothing to do with send/receive when you first started outlook.

Here is what i found with a google serch and is what i was looking for.

Thanks for your help.

In Vista you can no longer move your quick launch toolbar to the side of the
screen. For users who have been running XP for a long time, this can be
quite painful. Of course, I know the work around...
1. Right-click on a blank area of the desktop
2. Select New Folder from the context menu
3. Drag this New Folder to the very side of the screen and let go. The
toolbar should run vertically down the side of your desktop.
4. Right-click this new toolbar and select Toolbar and then Quick Launch
5. Right-click this new toolbar again and unselect New Folder
6. Right-click taskbar at the bottom of the screen, select Toolbars, and
unselect Quick Launch.

This is probably because you have "Send immediately when connected" checked.
to uncheck this go to:

Tools ==> Option
Click the Mail Setup tab on the top and uncheck "Send immediately when
connected"

Go to options, then mail setup, then click on send/receive button.

Click on group name, you will probably only have one called "all accounts",
and then click on edit.

Select in account options box what you want to happen when you click on the
send/receive button.

Have a safe and happy Xmas :)
