Autocad into Visio 2002

An Architect has sent me both dxf and dwg files and I am attempting to open
them in Visio 2002 Pro.
For the dwg files, I can open them, but there is no information in the
drawing, even after I rescale the drawing.
For the dxf files (169Meg), Visio grabs about 50% of the processor, then
never finishes (I have waited around 10 minutes) It does not matter if I
Open through the file menu, or, "Insert a CAD Drawing." I have installed
all options, and, SP2.

Is there a specific way that Autocad needs to save for them to be accessible
to me?

Make sure that the architect saves the CAD files with the full extents in
the view. Visio displays the last saved view from the file. For DXF, 169
MB is a big file. 10 minutes may not be enough time. It would not surprise
me if this took longer.

Mark -
I tried upgrading to Visio 2k3 Pro SP1, but that did not fix my problem.

I downloaded a free AutoCAD converter, (dwgConvert), and started converting
the original DWG to DXFs, but from different versions of AutoCAD. Going
backwards, the first one that worked was an AutoCAD DXF. AutoCAD 2004,
2002, 2000, 14, and 13 all failed to load. In every case the error
is,"Cannot open file. The file may not be a DWG or DXF file, it may not be
a supported version of the DWG file format, or it may be corrupted. Check
the file and try again."

Is Visio supposed to import newer versions?

Visio 2003 works with AutoCAD 2002 and earlier formats. The DWG format was
changed in AutoCAD 2004, and Visio 2003 does not support this.
