Autocomplete not functioning completely

Let me start by saying that I am somewhat computer illiterate. My
autocomplete function only works sometimes, and only seems to remember names
I have typed in the same day. I have spent a couple hours researching this,
and still can't fix the problem. I tried a search for the NK2 file, but no
files were found by that name. I also found an earlier thread that suggested
it might be a problem with upgrading from Outlook 2000 to 2003 (which we
did), and it suggested searching for and renaming the .nick file, but my
computer didn't pull that one either. And, if I am able to pull it up, what
exactly do I do then?

Can we uninstall 2000 and re-install 2003?

I would appreciate any help you can give me!!!!

Its a hidden file, by default in C:\Docs & Settings\'user name'\App
data\Microsoft\Outlook

PSThis was a typo?
If you are now using OL2003, did you create a new pst (Data File) in 2003
format and copy your 'old' pst data to this new data file?

We had Office 2000 on our computer, then my husband (who is also not very
computer literate) installed Office 2003. He said he just put the software
in and let it run throught the process. He thought it just replaced the old
version. He didn't do anything else other than follow the prompts. Now, all
the old data in office was saved on the new 2003 (i.e., my e-mails, etc.) if
that tells you anything. Should we re-install it and do something
different? If so, can you give me a some direction on how to do it properly
(keeping in mind I don't understand a lot about the whole computer thing). I
really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With regard to the second message here, I didn't quite understand what I
should do. Should I search in that file? I did a complete search of all
files already and couldn't find the NK2 or Nick.

The *.nk2 file is a hidden file, the default location being;
C:\Documents & Settings\'user name'\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
When searching you have to include hidden files, or via explorer

You should also check, in OL2003>Options>Email Options>Advanced tick
'automatic name checking' and 'suggest....'

When you upgrade to OL2003 whilst your settings and data are migrated,
usually successfully, the data file remains in OL2k format.
You would be advised, in OL2003 to create a new data file in OL2003 format,
then copy any data across to the new file.
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm should offer some guidence.
