AutoComplete

I have a list that includes numbers and text. Is there any kind of
workaround to make AutoComplete work for the numbers as well as the
text, in the limited context of a list?

Sorry about re-posting this. Last night I just got a terse,
uninformative response!

Hmm...

I saw your previous post and was disappointed at the response you got.
Responses like that are less frequent here than on other boards, but
they still happen.

Excel does not try to autocomplete numbers due to the infinitesimal
nature of them; in a given list of words, there are far fewer
possibilities and more likelihood of redundant entry than a list of
numbers.

I don't know what your application is, but you may want to look into
the data menu's validation command - you can create a drop-down
selection tool based on a list that you define. It's not
AutoComplete, but at least you can click to select.

P.S. (off topic): If you want to see some REALLY nasty responses to
posts, look in some of the linux boards. I don't know why those guys
are so arrogant - I have been using Linux (among several other OSes)
for years, and I quit trying to help people in those boards. Each
helpful response is bombarded by flame upon flame because there is
another way of doing something. Then these guys complain that nobody
takes Linux seriously. (I will probably get flamed just for making
this statement)

Thanks. I knew why AutoComplete would be impractical for numbers, but ya
never know.

(Whenever someone responds like that (to my previous post), I think of
the recurring skit on Sat. Night Live about the obnoxious know-it-all
office "Computer Guy", who has the answer to every esoteric computer
question but has no life otherwise.)

Hi hmm,

I'm just a newbie to XL and I have no clue what you are trying to achieve
but I just spent a few minutes experimenting and discovered that if you put
a letter before you numbers (for example "a123456") autocomplete works. That
may not help you much :-(

And when he's done, he can select his range and
edit|replace
find what: a
replace with: (leave blank)
replace all

(might do what he wants.)
