AutoCorrect deleting words

I am using Word 2000, on a Tablet PC, with Windows XP for Tablets. I have put in several AutoCorrent words, i.e. when I type "pateint" it should be replaced with "patient". It isn't working. when I type "pateint" and press the space bar the word is deleted, not replaced. Also, the "Correct TWo INitial CApitals" isn't working, even though the box is checked. I would appreciate any suggestions.

That's bizarre. I can't think of anyway that would happen, unless the
word is being replaced by a single character whose spacing has been
shrunk to the point of invisibility, which seems very unlikely.

Instead of trying to figure this out, I would recommend just re-creating
the AutoCorrect entry from scratch.
