autocorrect|shows message in Japanese or Korean when I add entries

When I add a new autocorrect entry, I get a message appearing in some Japanese-like language, and I have no idea what it means. Also, the autocorrect entries that I add only show up for this session of word, then I have to reenter them the next time I start Word. Help!

Check the language settings in Windows, Microsoft Office Language Settings,
and Word.

I checked the language settings, and it says English (U.S.) only. Any other ideas?

Hmm. Very bizarre. If it were AutoText, I'd suggest renaming Normal.dot, but
for AutoCorrect I don't know what to suggest. Are you on a standalone
machine or a network? If the latter, any chance that settings are being
reset when you log on?

Very Bizarre indeed. I renamed Normal.dot and it did not solve the problem. To review, I have three weird things happening, and they all started at about the same time:

1. When I add an entry to Autocorrect, when I click to Add a message box comes up in a Japanese-like language. (Only English shows up when I check what Language Word or Windows is using).
2. Any words I save in Autocorrect disappear if I close and re-open Word. (Entries I added prior to this weird thing happening still appear in Autocorrect.
3. When I open Word, it takes awhile and then I get a message that it is waiting for a printer (if the default printer is offline), and do I want to continue to wait. This did not happen before.

I tried renaming normal.dot, and it made no difference. I am operating standalone at home, and still use my own normal.dot when connected at my office. Any ideas?

To sum up, I have three things happening that all started about the same time:

2. All Autocorrect entries that I add disappear when I close and re-open Word. The Autocorrect entries that I added prior to the Asian-like message box are still there and still work.
3. When I open Word after the computer has rebooted, I get a message that the computer is waiting for a printer (the default printer), and it asks me if I want to continue waiting.

Let's pursue the printer angle. Whether the printer is turned on (or online)
or not should not make any difference so long as Word has access to the
driver, but if you're using a network driver and are not connected to the
network, then that could make a difference. You need to install the driver
locally.

If I change the default printer to Mthe Active Touch Document Loader, I don't get the startup message regarding waiting for a printer, but it does nothing to solve my AutoCorrect problem. Any other ideas?
