autofilter not working

Has the file you are working on had 'protection' assigned? This is the only
situation I can simulate where the autofilter is greyed out. Select a New
Excel worksheet and see if the autofilter is available. It should be and
confirms this function is working on your pc. To check if the worksheet has
'protection' just click on the tools menu and selet Protection if it says
unprotect you know it has protection and that would explain the fact
autofilter is not available on this worksheet.

Have you selected more than one worksheet?

Do you see [Group] in the title bar?

Right-click on a sheet tab and "ungroup" or just click on any tab but the active
sheet.
