Autofilter on a custom task text field

I received no response to my first posting of this issue.

I have a PWA dash board at the project level. When you click on a specific
project, it takes you to a task dashboard for that project. On the task
dashboard. I have three custom fields designated as task/text fields. Two
fields display an icon (red yellow or green) instead of the value. One field
does not.

We want to be able to filter on color but the PWA autofilter DOES NOT appear
on the fields with the icons. It DOES appear for the the field that does not
display the icon. Other than the icon, I cannot find any difference in these
three fields.

I created a test text field without a value list. Autofilter continued to
appear in the view. I added a value list and autofilter continued to appear.
I added the traffic lights and the autofilter disappeared. Is this a known
bug. How can this be fixed.
