Automate send/receive in Outlook

Hi,
I have configured my Outlook 97 to work with Intenet mail.
However, though the setting of Outlook is made to check
mail every one minute, I am not able to receive or send
message from Outlook automatically. I have to click
the 'Check for Email' under Tools menu to connect to the
mail server of my Internet provider at which time I can
receive and send the emails.

Is there any way to automate the process without clicking
the 'Check for Email' item? Thanks in advance.

The connection type is DSL and am always online.

That is not one of the possible connection types when you configure the
Internet Mail Service. Which did you choose?

"I use a modem to access my email".
This is actually a DSL modem and not 56k modem.
