Automatic Date Update

I insert the date in some documents using the Insert/Date and Time
feature with "Automatically Update" checked. The date automatically
updates when I open some of the documents but not others. Is there
something I'm doing wrong?

For the date to automatically update it needs to be a date field. Press
ALT+F9 and if it shows anything other than {DATE} or {TIME} probably either
with the addition of formatting switches eg {DATE \@ "d MMMM yyyy"} then
that is your explanation.
