Automatic Referencing in Word

Hello.

Is it possible to change several automatic references of the format
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
into 1-9
while still using the in-built office referencing tool and without deleting,
in this case, references 2-8)?

The referencing tool I'm referring to is, e.g. "Insert endnote", but there's
many more built-in tools. And no, I am NOT using an external programm like
Reference Managaer or Endnote.
