Automatic updates to the project from outlook

I would like to be able to hook up to the project server and have my outlook
download tasks for me from the project plan as well as keep track of what has
been accomplished by updating the project plan automatically from outlook...
I see the ability to do so from the outlook client. I am just wondering what
I have to do on the server side.
Alternatively, how would you do this within project server without using
outlook?

The Outlook Add-in is a standard feature for 2003 and 2007. You simply
activate the ActiveX download to install it on your local machine. How you
automate updates from Outlook without Outlook is a question I don't
understand, so you need to re-ask that one.

So if I understand you correctly once I install this project server plugin in
my outlook any updates I make about the project plan are reflected in the
plan (the notes are made in the project plan itself and the group leader does
not need to make adjustments to the plan reflecting my notes in outlook) and
that tasks are sent to my outlook, again when I install this plug-in.

It may require more manual steps than your post imagines, but it certainly
isn't onerous. Updates that you send to the Project Plan through Outlook are
handled the same way they are if you sent them from Project Web Access. The
steps basic steps are all the same, you're simply working in a different
interface. Our newest book, Managing Enterprise Projects using Microsoft
Office Project Server 2007 and its 2003 predecessor book cover the details
in great depth.
