automatic updates

My computer periodically seems to update Office 2003, well this is what I
figure is happening. When this occurs (I leave my computer on all the time),
I discover every document or software that is left open has been closed (no
auto saves) and my email software default has been changed to Outlook (I
normally use Outlook Express). How can I turn this auto change/auto update
feature off????

You have configured your system to use the Microsoft Update site which
updates Windows XP, Office 2003 and a few other programs. Go to Control
Panel, Automatic Updates and choose an option other than download and
install. I use the option to download, but not install until I authorize.

Not sure what to do about your email default changing to Outlook when an
Office 2003 update is installed.

Thanks, Don. I did as you suggested. Swear I did it once before when I
first had this issue, but when I went to control panel updates, it had
automatic, so I changed it. Hopefully this will fix the issue. Clearly, the
Outlook issue only happens when there's a major (aot a minor) update. Still,
you'd think a computer's default settings would remain, still as you point
out, both Windows and Office are Microsoft and their updates may not respect
existing defaults.
Thanks again!
