"Automatic workbook Recalculate" Self disabling???

I have a large (20 tab) workbook with >100 defined variables. No visual basic.

From time to time, and on different computers (Excel 2010, windows 7) automatic calculations get disabled. I have not been able to correlate it to anything I or other users are doing.

Suggestions?
