automatically delete emails from distribution lists

My rule is set as follows:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
from (e-mail address removed)
permanently delete it
and stop processing more rules

I have two distribution lists that send, literally, hundreds of pointless
emails to me everyday. I can't have myself removed from the dist list, and
so I've created these rules. But, they don't permanently delete, just clog
up my Deleted Items folder.

How do I turn off the "stop processing more rules" option? I am unable to
deselect it unless I also deselect the "permanently delete it" option.

Alternatively, is there another rule I can create to remove these emails
from my account?

If the messages are going to the Deleted Items folder, then your rule above
is NOT being applied. Permanent deletion bypasses the Deleted Items folder
completely, so if you see messages in that folder then, by definition, they
couldn't have been permanently deleted.
How do I turn off the "stop processing more rules" option? I am unable

I think you WANT the "stop processing" clause. That means that Outlook
won't try to apply rules that follow this rule to the message in question
and prevent the permanent deletion.

from my account?

You appear to have a person's address in the rule, so I'm assuming that it's
only a particular person on the list that you'd like blocked. Messages from
lists often have the list address and not the author of the message as the
sender. I'd try using the "with specific words in the message header"
condition instead of the "from people or distribution list" condition.

Thanks, Brian. It worked like a charm when I took off the "delete it" and
just selected "permanently delete". Also, I was confused about "stop running
rules". I thought it meant my other rules wouldn't run at all. I didn't
realize this was specific to each message as it was deleted. This helped a
lot!

Apparently you didn't post the real definition of your rule. Oh well, at
least things are working as you wish.
