autoname, fill in scott when sc is in the to box and have it fill.

the old email was set up to automatically fill in the name that matched up
with what you were typing in and i cannot figure out how to activate it.

What was the "old email?" What is the "new email?"
What is your Outlook version?
Perhaps you were not aware that autocompletion requires you to send messages
to populate your autocompletion cache before you'll see it working.

He wanted autocompletion, not autoresolution (name checking).
