Autonumbering within paragraphs

I am writing a report that I have set up with styles for headings, bod
text etc. but I need to insert a field that will automaticall
sequentially number for the purposes of referring to appendices.
want to be able to type at the end of a paragraph 'Appendix [x]' an
have the 'x' be a field that will sequentially number. (Similar to ho
footnotes work.) Is inserting a ListNum field the way to go? And ho
do I customise the ListNum field if I want to change the way th
numbers look (1,2,3 v. i, ii, iii)

Hi Lijarvis,

Create yourself an autotext entry that includes a { SEQ } field. e.g.

Appendix { SEQ Appendix }

Then every time you insert that autotext entry, the number that is displayed
by { SEQ Appendix } field will automatically be incremented.

Doug's answer is a correct answer to the question you asked, but it does not
address what may actually be trying to do. If you are referring to
appendices that actually exist in the document, then you should instead use
Insert | Reference | Cross-reference to refer to the paragraph number of the
(autonumbered) appendix. See
http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/numbering/NumberingAppendixes.html for help
with numbering the appendixes separately from the rest of the text.
