Autoshape connectors

When I draw a flowchart in word the connectors don't connect to autoshapes, they just remain unconnected lines. How do I get them to automatically connect? The connection sites don't show up on the shapes I'm tring to join with connectors.

If you're using Word 2002, connectors aren't available unless the drawing
canvas is enabled. If you are able to use connectors at all (in any
version), you must be sure that you have "snapped" them onto a connection
point on the AutoShape (there's a circle that changes from red to green or
some such when you've accomplished this).

Hi Gary,

The active connectors work only if you use the MS Draw Add-in
in Word 97 and 2000 and the Word Drawing Canvas in Word 2002
and 2003 to hold your flowchart. (Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing)

I'm on a network computer, in Office XP Professional, and the Connector box remains grey even when I'm in drawing canvas, and have followed all the Help instructions. None of the connect points change color, no matter what I do. I have tried the Office XP books: Teach Yourself Visually, Sams Teach Yourself, Simply Visual, For Dummies, and, Idiot's Guide. None of them help. I am wondering (at this point) if there are serious flaws in some of the copies of Office XP Professional for networks, which are not being admitted to. [Certainly the "troubleshooting" tips in Help are seldom effective, and very seldom include what I need to troubleshoot.]
