Autotext FormField

When I insert an autotext with a form field I get the FORMTEXT instead
of the field and an error message "form field was not inserted with Forms
Toolbar or Form Field Dialog Box", but it was.

What happens if you press Alt-F9?

Not sure about the error message, though.

Note that formfields inserted using AutoText will probably not have a
bookmark assigned, certainly not if you insert more than one in a document
using the same AutoText entry.

When we press Alt-F9 the field codes apear as they should, but we do not want
the code to appear on our forms. Since we began using Office 97 in 1998, the
autocorrect inserted form fields pefectly without showing the codes. Within
the last four weeks, autocorrect inserts will not let us enter data in the
fields unless we use Alt-F9 which is an extra step. We have download recent
Microsoft security updates, perhaps this has bugged up the autocorrect. We
are wondering if any one else is having the same problem?

The display of field codes is a global setting (more or less); it's
inherited from the window in which you open the form. If you have field
codes displayed in the window from which you open the form, they will be
displayed in the form document.

We went into the normol.dot and tried to tweak the autocorrect options but we
still loose the field format in a form document when inserted using
autocorrect. It must be caused by a bug in one of microsoft's recent security
downloads because it has worked for eight years. Does not make sense to all
of sudden be loosing field format when fields are inserted into a document
using autocorrect.

Try going to Tools | Options | View and clearing the check box for "field
codes."

We have tried this and this our preferred Option because is does not show the
field codes on our form. When we clear the check box is when we lose the
field formatting when the field is inserted into the document using Autotext.

My guess is that you are not inserting a field. Try revising your AutoText
entry.
