AutoText not working.

I am working in Word 2003. When I go to insert a footer,
choose autotext, then try and insert something like
filename and path, all I get are like numbers and boxes.
I can type the correct data in and it stays fine. The
autotext feature does not work in headers and footers.
Any suggestions. I have already run the disk, repaired
and replaced word and the whole office sweet. I have run
all the updates from the microsoft website, and run all
service pack updates. I'm at a loss. What can I do to
get the AutoText to working in Headers and Footers.
Thanks

You seeing the field rather than the result. Check under Tools, Options,
View tab that the Show, Field Codes check box is clear. Or right-click in
the field and select Toggle Field or select the field(s) and use Shift+F9 to
toggle the field codes.

That did not work either. It's like when I type something
it's fine, when I try and just do an autoinsert it imports
something that this 1 followed by a lot of boxes ending in
a 1. I can't toggle the codes or anything. Is there a
way to change a file, or rebuild autoinsert, or perhaps
clear something in the registry?
