I have a column (A) of 100 unsorted numbers. How do I get an average of the 5
largest and 5 smallest.

Try these, normal ENTER:
=AVERAGE(LARGE(A1:A100,{1;2;3;4;5}))
=AVERAGE(SMALL(A1:A100,{1;2;3;4;5}))
