AVI file won't play

I have an AVI file (MPEG encoded) which plays just find in Windows Media
Player but won't play when inserted into PP. It shows the first frame but
when playing it just goes black.

I have tried all the steps here: http://www.echosvoice.com/tshoot_video2.htm
to no avail.

Any ideas?

I suspect you have a codec issue. You may want to look over the tutorial on

This article suggests decreasing the hardware acceleration. I've noticed
better success with specifically reducing the VIDEO acceleration.

The easiest way to access is open Windows Media Player > right-click on the
media player icon in the top-left corner, Tools [OR if you have toolbars
activated, Tools] > Options... > Performance tab > under Video acceleration,
try gradually sliding the bar to the left towards none. However, note that
at "None" you'll start to notice degradation of the video quality.
