Has little or nothing to do with PPT. PPT uses the Windows MCI media player
for playback of video. I would suggest using the WMV 9 video codec using a
VBR.

Not much help to me. I need step-by-step directions on how to fix this
before I run my head into the wall! I am on a sabbatical and have wasted
about a third of it trying to get movies to run in powerpoint. HELP or
please HELP!!
Just a tip for the future. If you tell us what the problem is, we can do a
better job of providing a quick solution. Your original post asked a question
about codecs. Was the problem really that the movie showed up as a white box
and wouldn't run? That is an indicator of a path that is too long.

Sorry - the reason I asked about codecs was that the local "experts" at my
univeristy told me that was where my problem was. Not knowing any better, I
believed them. Again - sorry.
No problem. Just thought I would mention it for the next time. Codecs are
often suspected when there is a problem, but in PowerPoint there can be a number
of other reasons for problems and each problem is a little different.
