Awesome website

Hello I recently decided to build a website for a company it happens to be my first one. They were not extremely excited about the work I had done because they felt it was not professional enough and it didn't have enough dazzle. They commented on the fact that they liked a website djrace.com. They said it had a proffesional feel and that it was catchy. The web I created for them is at http://www.paceairfreight.com/design . I would like to know if anyone has any sites that they feel are professional and exciting at the same time without being to crazy. Also if there are any comments on what could be done to the site I am building to make it exciting I would appreciate it. I know the truck and plane look like crap but I was just doing a quick mock up thing. Anyway thanks for the feedback I really want my first pro site to be awesome. P.S. they also thought they might like a black background not sure if it would work well. Thanks Matt

The best option is for both you and the client to look at web sites that are in the same business as
the client.

I agree with Thomas.
Also, never show an inferior product to a client as a "demo" because you will lose them.

And imho, whatever you do talk them out of the black background. Black backgrounds are associated
with warez and hack sites, and smack of "amateur"

Art related sites seem to do well with black or other dark background colors, but not general
business sites.

I don't find http://djrace.com as exciting as they do. The images kind of
strobe on my screen. Face it freight transportation is not going to be as
exciting as racing.

As for as your sit goes I'd reduce the size of the header. Too tall, it
takes up to much screen real estate. You also need padding on the main
content an it looks crowded having the smaller truck and links flush against
the left side of the page. I prefer to use a bit narrower table 720px so if
will fit in all browsers with 800x600 resolution Some have more browser
chrome and 750 forces a scrollbar. Either that or don't sit a width and let
the page scale to match the visitor's window.

Also, since I'm in the business:
Is Pace a freight brokerage or freight forwarding company??
If so make that fact evident.
And take a look at other brokerage / freight forwarding companies. LandStar and Allstates World
Cargo come to mind as examples.
Also if brokers what services do they use to find and contract trucks.
Dat Partners by http://www.transportationsoftware.com/ a service that cost a few hundred $$ a month
to use, or www.getloaded.com cheaper but quite effective ??

Are they a company with their own rolling stock, if so make that fact obvious as part of the web
site and emphasize their equipment and capabilities: refrigerated, dry vans, air ride trailers,
flatbeds, trucks with driver teams or single drivers so on.
If so check out Risinger Brothers and R and L Carriers to name a couple.

Do they specialize in full load or do they also handle LTL ( less than truckload ) freight.

And also, when I clicked the link for the original "black background" page, the first thing that
caught my eye was the "Air Freight" spilling out of the back of the Tractor Trailer.
That my friend is a "No No" because it is a common practice of Air Freight forwarders to charge Air
Freight or "Expedited" rates, and then turn around and hire an OTR ( over the road ) team to deliver
the freight at a greatly reduced cost.

Honestly, your website is a good start but, it has no snap. Color would make it more sexy. You have only two colors. A real photo of a truck and plane would make it look... "real world". When I consider the build of a site, I usually try to search out the clients product as if I was going to make a purchase. Detail out the steps you would take in that process and then decide what has to be on the home page to snap up my attention. Remember, you have about 6 seconds for me to make a buying/click further decision.

Good luck

i liked the black background page, but the text should be
in a bulleted centered list and the truck leaves to be
desired. i liked the text effects. what program did you
use as an image editor ? on the new page : liked the truck
better, but the plane looks like it is crashing into it.
needs more space. the comment of someone to add more coror
is also good. my website is :www.izzyswebdesign.com it's
more artsy then corporate pro, but you may want to check
it out... i am just starting out too...kleo

A couple things...sans-serif fonts generally look better on a web page;
serif fonts are better for printed documents.

Also, I know you just did a quick mockup of the plane/truck graphics, but if
you're going for that grayish-chrome look that you used with your
line/lettering graphics, I made a few quick sample graphics for you to give
you some ideas, some with a white background and some with a black
background. you're welcome to use any of them freely, they're at
http://tastycomputers.com/pace/pace.htm. I'm definitely NOT a professional
graphics designer LOL.

Good luck!
