Axtive X Controls not working post Service Pack 3

C

Chris King

Hello to all,
We are running MS Project Server 2003, and we recently updated to
Service Pack 3 over the weekend. Now we have an issue with Active X controls
with regard to the export grid to Excel

When a User attempts to export grid to excel from the Projects window they
receive the following error

The ActiveX control on which this feature depends could not be created.
Because of this error, you can only copy the XML data to the clipboard. Do
you want to continue?

This error did not appear prior to the service pack update. I have tried to
reinstall the ActiveX controls for Project Server 2003 but when you do that
you get the license aggreement again and the service pack 3 componenet update
again and we are going in a circle.

Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Step 1 is to go to your browser options, security tab and set the PWA site
to be in your trusted sites.
That should usually do it.

Jack,
Thanks for the quick response. Yes the project server URL is in the
trusted sites list.

Any other suggestions on this. It just seems odd that this started after
the service pack update.

Jack and Chris --

For whatever it's worth, another user in this group ended up making a $250
support call to Microsoft Support about Project Server 2003 problems after
applying SP3, and Microsoft Support stated that there are bugs with SP3. I
cannot confirm this based on my own experience, but based on the posts we
are seeing in this newgroup regarding post-SP3 problems, I think it's pretty
clear that there are issues with SP3. Hope this helps.

Thank you Dale for that information. We already have one call into MS
Support on another issue, and it looks like we may need to put another one
in. Thanks again.

Configure your Internet Explorer settings as described in "Method 1"
in the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/818046

You need to configure the settings as "Enable", not "Prompt". This
should clear up your problem.
