Backdoor entry into Google

OK you might wonder what the hell I'm doing here but read on and all will
become clear.
I sometimes do a search for my own name just to see what pops up. So far
I've never found anything that points to me.
I recently asked a question in another MSN newsgroup and just two days later
I found my name had been listed in the Google search results page at
position number 6 on the first page.
I was amazed at this. I didnt even know that Google spidered newsgroups.
Anyway, being something of a chancer, I threw another question into a
newsgroup with perhaps the most relevant search phrase for my website, ie
Mother of the bride outfits.
Lo and behold, just two days later I find that particular Google search
placed this query in a very prominent position on the first page of results.
The actual website itself is placed on page two. It's bloody amazing.
Why does Gooogle give such prominence to ad hoc newsgroup enquiries over
other more useful results for actual websites dedicated to the subject being
searched for?
Anyway, as I said at the top of the subject, all would become clear. I
firstly want to alert you to this backdoor approach to gaining a better
search result and secondly I am making a blatant advertisement for my own
website. I hope you can forgive me for this.

The web is works in mysterious ways. I do the local fire
departments website and the footer has my name on it for
copyright. Now if you search for mike's department in google
the fire departments site is #1
