Background & foreground pages with layesr

I am trying to create a drawing on a background page and then display
selected objects from that drawing on each of several foreground pages. I
connected each foreground page with the background page containing the
drawing and assigned layers to the objects in the background drawing.
According to "Microsoft Office Vision 2003 Inside Out" (p. 469-470) I should
now be able to go to each foreground page and assign visibility to the
layers for that page. I cannot see how to do that. When I look at layer
properties on a foreground page, there are no layers listed.

Can anyone help please?

layers are on a page by page basis, an object on a different page (even
though it may have a layer with a similar name) is not affected by turning
it on and off on the active page.

That was what I thought until I read the following from Microsoft Office
Vision 2003 Inside Out" (p. 469-470):
"For example, in an office layout where the same room outline is used on
multiple pages, you can put the walls and moveable panels on the background,
and then use different foreground pages to display furniture layouts,
electrical wiring, network cabling, and so on. If you assign the wall shapes
to one layer on the background and the panels to another, you can hide the
moveable panels on all the pages that display the background whenever you
need to see only structural elements."

Do this mean the book is wrong or am I misunderstanding the point of the
author?

Thanks,

Jack

I suspect it is a minor misunderstanding. The way I read it is if you turn
off the layer for the movable panels on the background page then they won't
show through to the foreground pages.

Ahhh... I see what you mean. Not as useful as what I thought it was, but I
can still use it.

Thanks
