Office 2010, background images do not appear in print preview nor print

I insert different jpgs on each page to use as a background. I've been doing this for a long time but today for some reason the backgrounds do not come thru on print preview or when printed. Maybe I goofed up the master page? For now I created a pdf to print it out but I would like to resolve this.
