background not publishing

Charlie

When I publish my website from my web host to my hard drive, the background
on each page is absent on the hard drive version. Looking at the background
tab on page properties, the link to the background picture is pointing back
to the web host rather than to the background on the hard drive version.
What can I do to correct this problem? I'm using FP 2002 and Windows XP.

Thank you very much,

Charlie

Hi Mike...Yes, I am publishing to my HD so that I can burn the website
to CDs. Strange thing is that this morning I again published it to the
HD, and this time it worked fine. The only difference was that I checked
the "include subweb" box. I don't even know what a subweb is. :p I just
decided to try something new. Could that have had anything to do with
the success?

I just discovered that the problem still exists. The background was not
appearing before because I was out of town and not connected to the net.
Now I am back home (connected to the net again) and the
page/properties/background link is still pointing back to the web host
instead of to the HD. The background now appears because the internet
connection allows the the link.

When you applied your background to your page, how did you insert the link? The image needs to be in
your local copy of the web, and the link needs to be relative to the location within the local copy.

When I applied the background to each page I set the link in 'page
properties/background' to the background image, which is
http://hindocarina.com/Background.jpg. Now I have discovered that the
index page in the local copy gets the background from the proper
location on the HD, but all other pages are linked back to the image on
the server to retrieve the background image. Am I going to have to set
every page to get the background information from the index page? That
will require resetting 132 pages! Where have I gone wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Charlie

You use the broken hyperlink report to correct or you do a search and replace in HTML to correct.

A broken hyperlink report shows no broken links. However I did the
following:

I changed the properties of one page on the server to get the background
information from the index page...then I republished the web to my HD.
Now that page's background link points to the index page which does get
the background properly from the HD. So...is there a way to set all
pages to get the background from the index page without setting them
individually?

Thanks,

Charlie

If you run the broken hyperlinks report on your local copy of the site every
link to an external site (which includes your published version) will show
with status "OK", "broken" or "Unknown". The OK and Unknown links can be
edited in the same way as a "broken" link.

Please do not snip so much - many people do not keep read messages and
headers and lose track of the original problem and solutions tried.
