Background Sending

How can i configure Outlook (2003) to send my mails if Outlook isn't opened?

For example if i want to send a mail direct from Excel or Word it won't send
untill i have opened Outlook.

You can't. Since it's Outlook doing the sending, Outlook has to be running.

Strange.

I'm almost sure that on my previous computer it was possible. But maybe i'm
losing my mind.
