Backing up entire .pst

D

Dan

What are the alternative ways to back up my whole .pst file to an external HD, and what are the pros and cons of each?

Tape, CD-R(W), DVD-/+R(W), USB Memory Stick and all other media where you
can store data on.

I suggest you use a rewritable medium with more then enough space available
so the back-up media still suffice when your pst-file grows. Also choose a
media that enables you to allow a restore on the system of your choice.

Alternatives to what method? I'd just copy the file over in Windows Explorer
with Outlook closed.....or write a batch file to do the same....

I keep my Outlook.pst in the "My Documents" folder so it's just the one
folder that needs backing up each week.

Sounds good, and simple. How do you set that up? Any downside
My documents is set for automomatic backup using Iomega's Automatic Backup 1.0.2, so it's a great idea
Thanks for any help

Sounds good and easy, but I can't find the .pst file since I upgraded to W'XP. The Local Settings file/directory in the file path, that I did find by using advanced search for hidden files etc., couldn't be found. What's the secret
Thanks,

Did you have all the "extra" search option on ? ie. hidden files, subfolders
etc and also do the check on your entire HD ? Depending on how you have it
set up the .pst could be anyplace, some people store them on a separate
drive or partition. You should find at least two .pst's usually, when you
upgrade, almost always is a default (small size) .pst and the one you are
using

Move the pst-file when Outlook is closed. Outlook will then prompt you for
the new location so you can browse to your My Documents folder.

I didn't move it
Yes, I think I had all those options checked
Didn't even find one that I could access
Still need help to find the .pst so I can first back it up, and then consider moving it to MyDocuments to have it always backed up automtically by my Iomega Backup software
Thanks
