Backup and restore

I must say that MS could have done a much better job of create a backup
and restore utility than they did. I downloaded the utility off there
web site, it installed, but doesn't work. Everytime I click file then
'backup' it says 'none' under last backup.

Can someone tell me a sure fire way to protect my data or transfer it to
another computer that works???

TIA

Don't feel bad. I just installed it and it is telling me
I have no personal folders open. Yeah, right!

Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks,
PJ.

I got a sure fire way, created a shortcut to the PST files in my root
directory. Once a week, click on the shortcut, and "rar" the files into a
backup folder that is backed up to a DVD once a week.

I agree, however, I have 2 machines both have Outlook 2000. The .pst
file I found is in the following location. outlook.pst

Is this the file? Do I just copy paste it to say Nero and burn it?

Also, I have heard that Outlook can big a real 'pig' on memory. Is this
true? I know every backup file size depends on the size of the database,
but how many contacts have to be entered before you're into say a 30meg
back up.

that should be the file to backup... yes, burn it to a cd after closing
outlook and waiting a few min for outlook to completely close.

I'm not sure how many contacts total 30 megs - my pst is up around 200 megs.
Any more than about 5000 contacts and it's slower accessing them...

outlook is a pig, but most of it is just the program, it's not caused by the
pst size - besides, 30 megs is a small pst.
