backup copy of my web

how can I keep a backup of my web for the day when things
go wrong, or if following changes the site stops working
and I want to revert to the earlier version?
I would like to keep the backup on a removable disc.
then would I be able to import it back into frontpage if I
needed to?
having recently lost my web following a crash I can
confirm it is a nightmare getting it back off the server!

I open my web from the site, then "publish web" and publish it to my
external harddrive for a backup (navigate to the correct destination disk
using the browse button in the publish web window) -- if you want it on
removable CD, I would think the safest thing to do would be to publish it to
a drive first, then copy it to a CD -- depending on what kind of CD writer
software/hardware you were using, transfer rates during a CD write from the
site might be an issue -- safer to do it to the CD after publishing on the
HD, I imagine. Not a problem, I don't think, if writing to other removable
media.

Then if you lose your web, you simply open your backup, and publish back to
the server.

Hope that helps.
