Backup Outlook

Craig Pfaff

Hi,

I've got a user using Outlook XP or 2003, I want to upgrade their w/s to XP
Pro, they are using a POP3 account so I know all thier information is stored
locally. I'd like to move all thier e-mail information to the server, do
the upgrade and then bring it back. If I move the archive file will that
bring everything over or would I be missing something?

Thanks Craig Pfaff

Craig... You need to export the file as a PST file ... and then import when
readyt go to .....File> Import and Export >> Export to a file... and so
forth... As for Archiving ... it serves as a different purpose... hope
this helps :)

Thanks
Does that mean I have to back up each folder individually? I did the Export
but it only exported my emails and nothing else. So I have to do contacts,
emails, address and so on individually right?

Thanks again Craig

In reality, exporting is a poor way to backup Outlook data. Just copy and
reuse/reconnect the Outlook data file. The file you need to back up is your
Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the mail, calendar, contacts
etc are stored.

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm
http://www.howto-outlook.com/Howto/backupandrestore.htm
And here for how to reconnect your Outlook data file:
