backup, pst files

OL (2000) asks me regularly if I want to backup my emails. I say yes, but
today I need to re-read some of them and I can't.

I went to find -> *.pst. I am asked how I want to open the file, I say
OUTLOOK, and it opens a new email with the outlook backup pst as an
attachment. I try to open it, and I get a virus warning. I have 2 options :
save it to disk or cancel.

Please, can you tell me how to retrieve all my saved emails in a readable way?

Thanks a lot
