Backup

I am running the Project Server,STS & IIS from a single
box using Windows 2000 Advanced Server operating system.
Would doing a windows system backup on a tape drive,
enable to restore the Project Server in case of server
crash? Is it necessary to backup the databases separately
on another tape drive along with the Windows system backup?
Please advise.
Regards,
David.

disaster recovery for Project Server is very easy, as all the information is held
in the database. Backing up the database should be enough as a backup
plan. SharePoint is fairly complicated as some information is held on the
hard drive and in the database, so that would take a little more thought for a
plan.

Thanks, Matt for the reply. But what I would like to know
is would taking the backup of the windows 2000 system be
sufficient for the backup in case of server crash?

For Project Server, no it is not needed to backup anything on the file system
- unless you have customized the Project Web Access front end. Project
Server only installs our web front-end on the physical server itself, which
can be easily created in a matter of seconds with either reinstalling or using
the Project Server Edit Site Utility.

For project server, the only real thing that needs to get backed up would be
the data - which is located in the Project Server database.

But SharePoint is another story, as some of the data is held in the SharePoint
database and some held on the file system of the server's hard drive.

Hope that helps you.
